as the political, economical and cultural center of the province. It covers

city was officially proclaimed to be the municipality. Prior to that,
Guiyang was only a county in the Han Dynasty, called Shunyuan Town in
the Yuan Dynasty, Guiyang County in the Ming Dynasty respectively. It
was renamed Guiyang County in 1913.
