The
Double-pagoda Temple, also called Yongzuo Temple, is in the southeast
portion of Taiyuan City. The two pagodas soaring up to the sky is the
symbol of Taiyuan City. The temple and pagodas were set up in the period
of Emperor Waili in the Ming Dynasty. The 53-meter-high pagoda was octagonal
with thirteen stories and made with brick and stone. Inside the temple,
there is one Great Hall and two affiliated halls in the east and west
respectively.
The calligraphy tablets of the famous calligraphers,
Wang Xizhi, Yan Zhenqing, Su Dongpo, stand along the tablet corridor.
