Tibet has the largest leap in the last eight years with the development of the post and telecommunication service. Telecommunication has switched successfully from small volumn simulation technology to big volumn digitalization.  In 1998, telecommunication development laid its milestone in its history when the phone exchange volumn topped 140 thousand, mobile phone number reached 20064 and all towns within Tibet area are connected with program controlled switchboard. Soon afterwards the construction of the Lanzhou-Xining-Lhasa Fibre Cable came finally underway. It is going to be the most difficult one in the world to build. So far, Tibet telecommunication network has made it possible and modernized: telex, phone system, mobile phone system, pager system, facsimile system, DDN grouping exchange, voice info service, TV conference service, 163 Internet service,etc.
