This
church is the largest Orthodox Eastern Church in the remote eastern area,
first constructed in March, 1907 by Russian Troops. On September 27, 1923,
planned by a well-known Russian architect, it began to be rebuilt. This
lasted about 9 years until 1932. The style of construction was greatly
affected by the style of Byzantine. Now the church is historical proof
of Russia's invasion of the northeastern part of our country and is listed
among the most important historical sites to be given special protection
by the State Council. St. Sophia Church is a humanitary (shd.this be humanitarian?)
landscape that Harbin people are proud of. It plays an active role in
tourism and the construction of a historical and cultural city.
