Hohhot, a Mongolian word meaning "a green city", is the capital city of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The city government has jurisdiction over 4 districts and 5 countries. They are the New City District, the Jade Spring District, the Hui Nationality District, the Suburban District and Left Tumorte County, Toptech County, Holinger County, Wuchuan County and Qingshui (clear water) County. The city proper, including the 100 square km, has a population of approximately 650,000.

Hohhot, lying at the southern foot of the great green mountain, is determined by a distinctive continental climate which is cold in winter and cool in summer with an annual precipitation around 400 mm. June, July and August are golden time for tourists and the Nadam Festival is usually held in the middle of August.

Hohhot, featured with unique national characteristics, has many places of historical interest. In and around the city, there are the Big Temple, Xileto Temple, the Five-Pagoda Temple, Zhao Jun's tomb and Xilarmuren grassland. A visit to this city, among the vast grassland, will not only take you back in history but brings you closer to nature.
